When was the last time you stopped to acknowledge the things you’re truly grateful for? We count our calories, track our steps, and tally our social media likes, but we don’t often record our blessings. With 2018 quickly coming to a close and a fresh year before us, this is the perfect time for grateful reflection.
Today we are launching our 4 Weeks of Gratitude Challenge, and we encourage you to join in! Each week, we will focus on a particular area in which we can practice gratitude. We’ve also created a printable calendar you can hang up at the office or in your home to help you stay focused on the challenge and guide you in each area.
Let’s get started.
Week 1: November 1–7
FRIENDS
They’re there for us when we’re stuck in a rut. They bring chicken noodle soup when we’re sick, help us load the moving truck, and cry with us when loved ones pass away.
Then there are family obligations, activities, busy schedules and work. There are bills to pay, the lawn to mow, appointments and play-dates to keep. And before we know it, our friends have fallen to the wayside. Most of us have a difficult time just keeping up with the day-to-day, so expressing gratitude for our friends may not be at the forefront of our minds.
This week, we will reflect on the friendships that have truly impacted us. The best friend we’ve had since childhood, or the new pal we just met at work. Because every person in our life is special, and that’s reason enough to be grateful.
Week 2: November 8–14
WORKPLACE
With deadlines and meetings, long commutes and that one boss you just can’t seem to see eye-to-eye with, the workplace is often one of the last things we are grateful for. But no matter what, work continues to provide for our families. It offers opportunities for growth and diversifies skillsets. And, if nothing else, it gives a sense of purpose, gets us out of our beds in the morning, and helps us keep a daily routine. There is always something to be grateful for at work.
This week, we focus not only on the paycheck, but also on the relationships built in the office, the doors our jobs help open to us, and the opportunities to network with other like-minded individuals. Whether it’s a 9–5 or a part-time weekend gig, gratitude for the work we do is crucial.
Week 3: November 15–21
COMMUNITY
While every community looks different, from bustling cities to remote farm towns, we’ve all landed where we are for a reason. Whether by choice or situation, our community impacts us on a deep level. It’s time to recognize the many reasons we’re grateful for the things, places and people who turn our town into a home and neighbors into family.
Week 4: November 22–28
FAMILY
As many of us gather this week around a Thanksgiving table with those we love the most, we think focusing on family is the perfect ending to our four-week challenge.
Every family looks different. Some are blood relatives, while others are those you love so much they’ve gone from friends to brothers and sisters. And while every family dynamic varies, one thing remains: We all have something to be grateful for. Whether it’s the aunt who invested in your childhood by teaching you to read, the kids who are constantly underfoot but adding so much joy, or the spouse who is often away, working hard to provide, we love our families and wouldn’t be the same without them.
While gratitude is a practice we all should hone year-round, we hope you take these four weeks to really focus on your many blessings.
